Carlo de Hennin

Carlo was born in Antwerp and is a Doctor of Law. His background is in shipping and logistics. He served in the commercial navy, was director of a shipping line agency in Aden and specialised in shipping of explosives and dangerous goods. For many years he worked as an independent consultant to the European Commission, before undertaking further studies in audit. Since 2003, he has been almost exclusively active in peacekeeping operations on behalf of the European Commission. Among other mandates, he was the acting Chief Administration Officer for the AMISOM mission in Somalia. He advises the European Commission on support in training of military and police in peacekeeping missions as well as in policies in the fight against piracy. The 1st Interface Ship-Port International Conference in Bremen (Bremen University 2008) mandated him with a study of the safety of ships and ports. In March 2011 he completed the 'Expert Training Modules on Arms Control and Disarmament' held at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy.
